What Is a Kick Feint (Guillotine) in Futsal? When to Use It and How to Make It Work
Have you ever felt that whenever you try to shoot, the defender reads it every time? Because the futsal court is small and the goal is tight, the kick feint is extremely effective. This article explains the mechanics of using a fake shot to unbalance the defender, along with the timing, angles, and distances that help it succeed. When combined with pisada and tonpa, it gives you far more options in your individual technique.
In futsal, a kick feint is sometimes called a guillotine, because the fake feels like it slices through the defender.
That said, outside futsal, "guillotine" is an ominous word associated with an execution device, so it should be used carefully to avoid misunderstanding.
This pattern, where you cancel the shot and then shift the ball onto the other foot, is the standard version.
The key to a good kick feint is to keep your normal shooting motion right up to the last moment.
If you make it obvious that you are doing a kick feint for the sake of doing a kick feint, the defender will read it. The important thing is to keep selling the shot until just before you execute it.
Among kick-feint variations, the version where you glide the ball with the sole in a kind of double touch is called a crash touch. (See Kensuke Nakai's video.)
Players who are strong from distance can use a kick feint to beat defenders who bite on the shot block.
As shown here, it is especially effective in tight situations in front of goal, and it is often used in 1v1 situations against the goalkeeper after beating them and creating the space to finish.
Lastly, Kensuke Nakai gives a very clear explanation of the key points of the crash touch, so I will leave it here.
The kick feint can be applied not only to shooting, but also to passing.
This time, we looked at the kick feint, a highly effective individual tactical action in futsal.
It is a practical technique you can use right away in pickup games and casual futsal, so take this chance to add it to your game.
