Transitions in Numerical Equality (1v1, 2v2): Temporizing, Fast Break, or Slow Attack

Published: 2021.06.07Updated: 2026.05.03

This article explains transitions in numerically equal situations (1v1 and 2v2).

In these situations, the number of players is the same as the opponent's, but because the defence is not fully set, it is not easy to reach the finish. Depending on the flow of the game, there are times when the right decision is to attack deliberately and slowly instead (a slow attack).

Let us organize it step by step while looking at specific diagrams.

What is temporizing?

Temporizing refers to the action of creating time.

During a transition (counterattack), by deliberately carrying the ball more slowly and temporizing while waiting for teammates to join, you can create a numerical advantage.
